| Cave
Diving Group |
The
national body for cave diving in the UK. The British Sub Aqua Club defer all advice on
cave diving to the CDG.
The group is non-commercial and exists to provide training,
advice, and negotiate access to sites for cave divers.
The web site pages contain information on the history of the group,
provides articles on cave diving, the training it
provides, publications, a photo gallery, contacts within the
group,
membership, and links to other sites.
The site is well laid out with the home page pointing to the various
subsections that provide the relevant information. All information
is presented in readable manner and is not overloaded with graphical
images. |
| British Caving
Association |
The national body for caving in England, Scotland and Wales.
The association is non-commercial and exists to provide a
national voice for cavers and to act as a go between between
government and the caving community.
The web site contains information on the organisation structure, administration,
conservation and access, training, safety, equipment.
The site is well laid out but the home page is mostly just a list of
links to the many other pages that hold information. This could be
off putting, however this list could be scanned quickly to see if
the item you are looking for is present. This is not a site for
advertising caving to the general public and its format reflects
that, however it does hold the information necessary to allow you to find a list
of the nearest caving clubs to your area and provide
you with an information resource on how to cave. The site is fast
loading and does not generally use many graphics/pictures. |
| Farr World |
Martin Farr's cave diving site. Martin is a very experienced
caver and cave diver. He has written several books
on these subjects as well as having led many international expeditions,
and one point in time held the world record for a cave diving
penetration in the Bahamas. This is a commercial site and its
purpose is to advertise Martin's services as a lecturer and
an instructor for the training of caving and TDI cave diving
courses.
The web site contains information
on his books, courses, lectures, and photos.
The site is well
laid out and contains a selection of very good photos of caves and
cave diving. The site makes good use of graphics but has kept these
to a small file size which does not impinge on download speed. The
main photo gallery allows you to select which photos to
| Snoopy Loop |
Details the achievements and exploits of
various French cave diving expeditions, especially deep
diving trips. This is a non-commercial web site
but does recognise its commercial sponsors. The expedition was
carried out by various team members, but especially Dr Jerome Meynie.
The web site details the dives that the expedition made, the
expedition members, photographs, location maps, and a list of links to related sites.
The web site uses a front page that allows language selection for
French or English, and a then a link page for the various expedition
sites. The pages are black background with a white text, using
yellow for keywords. The site includes many pictures from the
expeditions and is kept up to date. |
| IANTD |
The International Association of Nitrox and
Technical Divers has become one of the leading training
agencies for all aspects of technical diving. The web site details
the history of the organisation, its instructors and courses, and
much information relevant to the type of diving it teaches. This is
a commercial web site and as such can be seen as an
advertisement to their services.
The organisation initially started by offering courses in use of
Nitrox (air with a higher percentage of oxygen) in 1985, but soon
expanded to cater for all aspects of technical diving. It offers two
courses, Introductory Cave Diver and EANx or Air Cave
Diver, in addition to the relevant instructor grades. This is a US
based agency but the site does include the links to the UK
representatives. The site also includes some pages and
information on cave dives in the US.
The web site initially opens on a page that redirects you to the
main site, the address of which is only seen as an IP number. You
are then directed to a complicated home page that makes a lot of use
of colours, animated graphics, colours, drop down lists, and
advertisements. These do not overly infringe on the reading and
understanding of the page but will affect down load time. This page
covers much more than one screen of information and if you do not
scroll down you will miss much of that present. The site can be over
complicated in places with the use of frames (up to 4 at one point),
to the extent where it is hard to determine what is
happening. |
